A Living Universe

As humanity extends the internet further into the physical world, a new, organic neural system is emerging

Our goal is to develop systems that empower humanity's inherent ability to intelligently and ethically manage the earth's resources and social needs.

This is a time of great potential, the most transformative time in history. Old and outmoded systems are breaking down as humanity begets new and universally practical systems and inventions.

During the mechanical ages we had extended our bodies in space. Today, after more than a century of electric technology, we have extended our central nervous system itself in a global embrace, abolishing both space and time as far as our planet is concerned. Rapidly, we approach the final phase of the extensions of man - the technological simulation of consciousness, when the creative process will be collectively and corporately extended to the whole of human society, much as we have already extended our senses and our nerves by the various media... The aspiration of our time for wholeness, empathy and depth of awareness is a natural adjunct of electric technology...There is a deep faith to be found in this new attitude – a faith that concerns the ultimate harmony of all being.

Inspiration

The Seafood Ecosystem was inspired by

Marshall McLuhanBuckminster Fuller, Edward T. Hall, Jacque Cousteau, Jacque FrescoElinor OstromVandana Shiva, Marcin Jakubowski, Jeremy Rifkin, Pete Seeger and many others engaged with positive social, economic, and environmental evolution.

Third Industrial Revolution - Jeremy Rifkin

Jeremy Rifkin explores how Internet technology and renewable energy are merging to create a powerful "Third Industrial Revolution." He asks us to imagine hundreds of millions of people producing their own green energy in their homes, offices, and factories, and sharing it with each other in an "energy internet," just like we now create and share information online.

The Global Brain - Peter Russell
Based on the themes in the book The Global Brain, this moving audio-visual presentation explores the idea that the Earth is an integrated, self-regulating living organism and asks what function humanity might have for this planetary being. It suggests that we stand on the threshold of a major leap in evolution, as significant as the emergence of life itself, and the essence of this leap is inner spiritual evolution. Moreover, Peter Russell maintains that it is only through such a shift in consciousness that we will be able to manage successfully the global crisis now facing us.
Open Source Ecology - Marcin Jakubowski
Open Source Blueprints for Civilization. Build Yourself. OSE is currently developing a set of open source blueprints for the Global Village Construction Set (GVCS) – a set of the 50 most important machines that it takes for modern life to exist – everything from a tractor, to an oven, to a circuit maker. In the process of creating the GVCS, OSE intends to develop a modular, scalable platform for documenting and developing open source, libre hardware – including blueprints for both physical artifacts and for related open enterprises.
Future of Food - Vandana Shiva
"Future of Food: Dictatorship or Democracy?" |October 30, 2014 | Dr. Vandana Shiva discusses how the future of the planet is intimately linked to the future of food, both because everyone must eat and because industrial agriculture has the largest impact on ecosystems and our health. Trained in physics and philosophy, Dr. Vandana Shiva is renowned for her activism against GMOs, globalization, and patents on seeds and traditional foods. She co-founded Navdanya, which promotes seed saving and organic farming and has more than 70,000 farmer-members. She is the recipient of the 1993 Alternative Nobel Peace Prize (the Right Livelihood Award) and has authored several bestselling books.
Commons Economics - Elinor Ostrom

For her work that made her the first and only woman to win the Nobel Prize in Economics, Ostrom identified eight "design principles" of stable local common pool resource management which "debunked" the inevitability of the trajedy of the commons and universalized conditions of functional and often traditional resource systems around the world.

These principles have since been slightly modified and expanded to include a number of additional variables believed to affect the success of self-organized governance systems, including effective communication, internal trust and reciprocity, and the nature of the resource system as a whole with progressive reinvestment of profits from nested enterprises within a commons.  FUNDAEC.org is one of the most robust examples of such commons based economic frameworks, with a 150,000+ farmer strong cooperative economy network spanning 7 countries and 4 indigenous language groups.

The development of the Seafood Ecosystem is informed through a holistic evolutionary perspective

We are dedicated to developing the value and transformative potential of open source peer-to-peer technology, innovation, and culture for business, policymakers, NGOs, and the broader public.

We have the central objective of supporting public information gathering, discourse, participation, and collaboration on key issues affecting the seafood industry.

We are a cross-disciplinary resource for new strategies and policies around the emergence of distributed ledger technologies, smart contracts, and the collaborative commons.

Technology has an ever-increasing impact on business, society, and culture. To positively harness this impact for all we recognize the need for comprehensive frameworks that include all aspects of the development process from agile technology; systems and complexity theories; critical learning pedagogy; spiral dynamics; integral; new economies; and other relevant, time tested methods.

You never change things by fighting the existing reality. To change something, build a new model that makes the existing model obsolete.

Global Ocean Literacy

SFC is committed to boost ocean literacy globally

Ocean Literacy means understanding the ocean’s influence on you and your influence on the ocean. An ocean literate person understands the Essential Principles and Fundamental Concepts about the ocean; can communicate about the ocean in a meaningful way; and is able to make informed and responsible decisions regarding the ocean and its resources.

Ocean Literacy Framework

There are seven Ocean Literacy principles, and the complementary Scope and Sequence is comprised of 28 conceptual flow diagrams.

  1. The Earth has one big ocean with many features.
  2. The ocean and life in the ocean shape the features of Earth.
  3. The ocean is a major influence on weather and climate.
  4. The ocean made the Earth habitable.
  5. The ocean supports a great diversity of life and ecosystems.
  6. The ocean and humans are inextricably interconnected.
  7. The ocean is largely unexplored.

Resources

The W2O WORLD OCEAN FORUM invites fresh ideas, new solutions, provocative and imaginative conversations about the future of the ocean, and links unexpected people with unexpected ideas. It is a place for key ocean voices: professionals and Citizens of the Ocean alike, to contribute to an active forum of opinion, ideas, and proposals for change in ocean policy and action worldwide.

The W2O WORLD OCEAN JOURNAL is a digital magazine on ocean culture and solutions to today’s ocean issues. Each volume includes essays, interviews, art, exhibits, and more, profiling the vital impacts of the ocean on our lives.

The ocean has a place in all disciplines

National Marine Educators Association

National Marine Educators Association (NMEA) is a dedicated, influential member-based organization of classroom teachers, informal educators, university professors, scientists, and more from around the world working together to advance the understanding and protection of our freshwater and marine ecosystems.

European Marine Science Educator Association

The European Marine Science Educator Association (EMSEA) is an international non-profit organisation committed to boost ocean literacy in Europe. EMSEA provides a platform for ocean education in the different European regional seas.

Conscious Business Declaration

As a global community of business leaders we are committed to developing the awareness and skills needed to consciously evolve our organizations in alignment with these principles:

We Are One with humanity and all of life. Business and all institutions of the human community are integral parts of a single reality — interrelated, interconnected and interdependent.

  • In line with this reality, the purpose of Business is to increase economic prosperity while contributing to a healthy environment and improving human wellbeing. Business must go beyond sustainability and the philosophy of “do no harm” to restoring the self-renewing integrity of the Earth.
  • Business must operate with economic, social, and ecological transparency.
  • Business must behave as a positive and proactive member of the local and global communities in which it operates.
  • Business that sees, honors, and celebrates the essential interconnected nature of all human beings and all life maximizes human potential and helps create a world that works for all.
  • When aligned with Oneness, Business is the most powerful engine on Earth for creating prosperity and flourishing for all.

Systems Change Resources

"A new economic system is entering onto the world stage. The Collaborative Commons is the first new economic paradigm to take root since the advent of capitalism – and its antagonist socialism – in the early 19th century. The Collaborative Commons is already transforming the way we organize economic life, with profound implications for the future of the capitalist market."
